We are thrilled to have once again been included in The Good Food Guide 2020:
"This has become a York favourite with a laid-back, bohemian feel and imaginative cooking’: praise indeed for this unassuming, easy-going café. Decor is vintage – scrubbed tables, mismatched chairs, rusty lamps – and it has few pretensions beyond providing fresh, interesting dishes whether for brunch, lunch or the occasional evening (Thursday to Saturday). Shakshuka or Mexican eggs (with spicy refried beans, avocado, lime, sour cream, grated Cheddar, fresh salsa and coriander) may start the day, with lunch bringing aubergine Parmigiana or a chicken Zanzibar curry with star anise, jasmine rice, cucumber and poppy seed salsa. And there is plenty of interest at dinner, too, when chef James Gilroy might conjure up cod, chilli and oregano empanadas, or cider-glazed sea trout with spätzle, crispy turnip leaf and crab mayonnaise. For afters, cakes from the counter beckon. It’s all washed down with craft ales, cocktails and a short, modern wine list with bottles from £17."
